Bethlehem University warmly welcomes His Excellency Archbishop Giorgio Lingua following his appointment by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV as Apostolic Delegate in Jerusalem and in Palestine on Thursday, 22 January 2026.
In his role as Apostolic Delegate, Archbishop Lingua serves as the Holy Father’s personal representative to the people of Palestine. In this capacity, he also assumes the role of Chancellor of Bethlehem University, continuing the long-standing relationship between the University and the Holy See. The University looks forward to his pastoral leadership and guidance as it advances its mission of education, justice, peace, and service in the Holy Land.

The University community looks forward to Archbishop Lingua’s accompaniment and support as it continues to educate future leaders committed to hope, resilience, and social responsibility amid ongoing challenges.
At the same time, Bethlehem University extends its profound gratitude to His Excellency Archbishop Adolfo Tito Yllana for his dedicated service as Apostolic Delegate and Chancellor since 2021. Throughout his tenure, Archbishop Yllana demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the University’s mission, offering encouragement, advocacy, and pastoral care that strengthened the institution and uplifted its students, faculty, and staff.
Bethlehem University joins the wider Church in giving thanks for Archbishop Yllana’s faithful service and lasting impact, and in offering prayers and best wishes to Archbishop Giorgio Lingua as he begins this important mission among the people of Palestine and the Bethlehem University community.
