Bethlehem University has hosted a dialogue meeting to explore strengthening and expanding cooperation with the Beit Sahour Cooperative Association in the USA (Beit Sahour USA). The initiative aims to support student success, expand academic and professional opportunities, and reinforce ties with community members and expatriates abroad.

This initiative builds on the deep-rooted historical relationship between Bethlehem University and the community of Beit Sahour since the university’s founding. Successive generations of Beit Sahour students, alumni, faculty, and staff have actively contributed to the university’s growth and development.

Supporting Students and Nurturing Excellence

The meeting commended Beit Sahour USA’s initiative to grant scholarships to 10 Bethlehem University students residing in Beit Sahour. Beyond financial assistance, the initiative aims to build sustainable personal and professional relationships between the students and their sponsors.

Key Discussion Points Included:

• Procedures and criteria for application submission and student selection.
• Ensuring the highest standards of privacy and consent regarding visual materials attached to applications.
• Reviewing eligibility criteria to draft formal Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) to solidify this partnership.

Future Vision: “Beit Sahour Partnership for Student Success”

Beyond financial support, the university leadership presented a broader vision titled the “Beit Sahour Partnership for Student Success,” focusing on several core pillars:

• Mentorship and Career Guidance: Connecting students with experienced professionals among the diaspora in North America for online career mentoring, resume reviews, and guidance in entrepreneurship and business.
• Internship Opportunities: Expanding virtual internship programs, participating in professional seminars, and opening future training avenues with organizations and businesses run by Beit Sahour emigrants abroad.
• Language and Cultural Exchange: Collaborating to offer Arabic language and heritage programs for diaspora youth to connect younger generations with their roots and culture.
• Alumni Engagement and Oral History: Providing opportunities to document the history of expatriates and local families, alongside facilitating virtual dialogues and joint community activities between youth in the homeland and abroad.

At the conclusion of the meeting, participants were presented with copies of Bethlehem University’s Golden Jubilee book (marking 50 years since its founding) in appreciation of the vital role played by Beit Sahour families in the university’s journey. A joint working group will be formed to follow up on the partnership steps and finalize the Memorandum of Understanding.
