At the invitation of the American University of Madaba (AUM) Lain Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan Bishop Iyad Twal, has delivered a lecture addressing the various evolving challenges facing Catholic higher education in an increasingly fast-changing global context.
During the lecture, Bishop Twal underlined the essential role carried out by the AUM in conveying its educational and human mission. He stressed the importance of remaining firmly adhering to moral and Gospel values, to fostering a culture of dialogue and openness, as well as to enhancing responsible critical thinking. He also referred to the need for these institutions to keep pace with academic, technological, and societal developments in ways that preserve their identity and mission while consolidating their active presence in society.
The lecture was followed by a panel discussion chaired by Bishop Twal, with the participation of Chairman of the AUM’s Board of Trustees Eng. Azzam Shweihat, and acting AUM President Prof. Dr. Uday Arida. Views were exchanged on perspectives for advancing higher education, addressing institutional challenges, and enhancing cooperation between academic institutions and ecclesiastical authorities.
The event concluded with an emphasis on the importance of continuing dialogue and cooperation, given their essential role in supporting the mission of Catholic higher education and fostering partnership in the service to humanity and society.
