The 9th panel discussion--which falls within the framework of the "Media Without Hate" Initiative--titled, "Religion and Society" has been held as part of a series of panel discussions highlighting contemporary media challenges. The session included Fr. Dr. Rif’at Bader, director of the Catholic Center for Studies and Media; and Dr. Laila Jarrar, associate professor of media at the Middle East University. In attendance were a group of media students from Middle Eastern, German, and applied universities.

The session began with introductory remarks addressing current issues relevant to the relationship between religion, media, and society, during which Dr. Jarrar underlined the importance of distinguishing between constructive and purposeful media content, while warning that superficial contents may weaken the enlightened and social role of religion. On the other hand, Fr. Bader conveyed views emphasizing the need for the ethical application of religious values in confronting media challenges, particularly in light of the impact of digital platforms on societal dialogue.

The panel discussion addressed several topics, mainly the impact of media on religious identity, exploring media behavior among young people, the importance of media literacy in understanding content, as well as methods for facing fake news and violent rhetoric in the name of religion.  The attending students made contributions that enriched the discussion.

At the end of the  panel session, the participants made several recommendations, among which are integrating media literacy into educational curricula, encouraging diversity in the religious media, and launching interactive platforms that bring together specialists and the public to foster constructive dialogue.
