By Munir Bayouk/ en.abouna.org :

Marking the “Feast of Lord Jesus the King”, the "Springs of Hope" Initiative in Jordan, in cooperation with the Union of Religious Congregations, held a meeting on Saturday, November 16, with the scouts and guides of the Latin Monastery, northern Marka, in cooperation with group leader Mr. Ghabi Al-Dalu.

At the opening session, Mr. Dalu welcomed Dr. Ra’eda Sweidan, ambassador and representative of Springs of Hope in Jordan,  praised the spirit of cooperation between the members of the Springs of Hope initiative and the Scouts, and welcomed the attendees.

Later, Dr. Ra’eda Sweidan delivered a lecture that covered two main issue, firstly the Synod where she explained the meaning of the word "Synod" and linked it to the concepts of communion, participation, and mission. She also emphasized the active role of the laity within the Church, stressing the importance of youth awareness of their responsibilities as members of the body of Christ. Secondly, she dealt with raising awareness of the scourge of human trafficking, as well as explaining its types and causes. She called on young people to raise awareness and contribute to curtailing this phenomenon, based on the relevant call  made by Pope Francis and the recommendations of the final statement of the Talita Kum Conference held in Rome on May 18-24, 2024.

Prior to the end of the meeting, Sister Cecile Hijazin delivered an address during which she encouraged young people to live the journey of life despite all the challenges. She stressed that this can be done by always returning to Lord Jesus Christ, whereby through prayer we draw from Him the spiritual strength and human determination to build a welcoming and supportive church for all and for a better society.
