Marking the Lenten Season fasting, the preparations for the convening of the General Assembly of International Talitakum in Rome, as well as coinciding with the International Women’s Day, the Feast of Saint Joseph, and the Feat of the Annunciation, the Catholic women's religious fraternity groups in Zarqa region have held a spiritual retreat on their second anniversary. The retreat was held at St. Jane Church in Al-Hashemiya Quarters at the invitation of parish priest Fr. Hani Jamil, in cooperation with the Union of Religious Congregations, and held at the initiative of adviser of the group Fr. Ibrahim Naffa' and the general assembly of the groups in Jordan.
About 120 women participated in the meeting from various Zarqa quarters along with the region’s priests and nuns, in order to experience at this holy time the spirit of prayer, fasting, repentance, listening, and discernment, and to share in each other’s experience as mothers who preserve life, to raise awareness of women and empower them, as well as to confront the challenges of daily life and its developments, and to raise awareness about striving to reduce human trafficking.
Following a welcoming address by Fr. Hani Jamil, and a prayer for fasting by Sister Cecile Hijazin, representative of the Union of Religious Congregations, and saying a prayer for peace in the world especially for our region, our holy land, Sister Marie-Pierre, director of the Rosary Sisters School in Jabal Amman, gave a lecture titled, "The Value of Women in the Holy Bible and Their Roles in Education" which touched on the life of women in the entire Holy Bible. The lecture ended with a question: What can we learn from them?
Dr. Basima Sam'an, director of the Noursat TV in Jordan, also delivered a lecture on the untold virtues of Blessed Mary in order to empower women spiritually. Later, Dr. Ra'eda Swaidan, a member of the Springs of Hope Initiative in Jordan, presented a lecture titled, "Springs of Hope and Saint Josephine Bakhita, Human trafficking, and the Ambassadors of Hope in Jordan" which focused on raising awareness against the scourge of human trafficking.
Then, Fr. Ibrahim Naffa’ celebrated Holy Mass which was concelebrated by regional priests. Furthermore, in compliance with a call made earlier by Pope Francis, the Holy Mass was dedicated to peace in the world especially for peace in the Holy Land and Gaza Strip. The meeting concluded with exchanges of good wishes marking the Feast of St. Joseph, Mother's Day, and the Feast of the Annunciation. Presents was also forwarded to attending ladies by the Bible Society of Jordan.
