Following is the text of the statement issued by the Council of Church Leaders in Jordan welcoming the Cabinet's decision on the draft amended law for Christian Denominational Councils dated June 23, 2026:

The Council of Church Leaders convened on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese and discussed the Cabinet's decision while approving the reasons eliciting the issuance of the draft amendment to the Law relevant to the Christian denominational councils of 2026, in preparation for its referral to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau and the completion of the necessary constitutional and legal procedures for its enactment in accordance with established processes.

The Council of Church Leaders expresses its profound satisfaction with this decision and commends the significant efforts exerted by the Jordanian government, led by Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan and the esteemed members of the Cabinet in following up on this matter and approving it, which will contribute to strengthening justice, entrenching the legal rights of Church members, in addition to enhancing feelings of stability and reassurance among Christian families in the Kingdom.

The Council of Church Leaders stresses that this achievement falls within the framework of Jordan’s longstanding approach relevant to respecting religious diversity, as well as safeguarding rights and freedoms under the wise Hashemite leadership that has consistently served as a model for enrooting the values of citizenship, the rule of law, common living, and national unity among the various components of the Jordanian society.

The Council of Church Leaders also underlines the importance of preserving Christian unity, in addition to strengthening the spirit of cooperation and integration among all Churches in a way that serves their spiritual and national mission, as well as reflects their shared responsibility toward their members and the nation.

While acknowledging the diversity of opinions on this matter, the Council of Church Leaders calls on all church members and the believers to act with wisdom, prudence, and a sense of responsibility.

While the Council of Church Leaders reiterates its full respect for the constitutional and legal process through which these amendments are proceeding, it stresses the importance of continuing dialogue through official and legislative channels in order to reach a comprehensive legal framework that serves the public interest, as well as safeguards the rights of all parties in an atmosphere of transparency and mutual respect.

May God protect Jordan, its leadership and its people, and grant it enduring peace, security, and stability.
