Jordan: Ecclesiastic Court’s 10th Annual Canon Law Conference to open, July 23

By Munir Bayouk/ en.abouna.org :

On July 23-July 29, 2023, the Ecclesiastic Court of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem will hold its 10th Annual Canonical Conference at the Movenpick Dead Sea Resort, Jordan. A total of six bishops, 70 Christian lawyers, and 30 priests from both the Latin Patriarchate, and other local Churches will be participating in this year’s conference.

During the conference, His Beatitude Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, will preside at a Holy Mass in memory of the late Professor Arroba Conde, who passed away in May 2023 in Spain after a short fight with cancer. Head of the conference Fr. Emile Salaita lauded the measures taken by all responsible authorities to facilitate the arrival of speakers and participants from Arab and friendly foreign countries.

This year's conference is titled, "The Conference of the Legal Scholar, Fr. Arroba Conde," who passed away two months ago in his country, Spain, as he was the main lecturer and teacher in all conferences held since 2015, in addition to being the professor of canon law for all judges of the Latin Patriarchate Courts. His departure, according to Father Salaita, was shocking news for all judges and lawyers practising in ecclesiastical courts, and a heavy loss.

The Ecclesiastic Court notes: “The Late Pro. Arroba Conde played an important role in all our Conferences and was a hero in the eyes of many of our lawyers, as he was the main lecturer in all our conferences since 2015. He also taught Procedural Law to all our judges. His death was a shocking piece of news for all of us, and a huge loss that can't be compensated!”

It is worth noting that the conference will host 10 judges from the Catholic Coptic Church in Egypt. A lecture will be given by Bishop Hanna Alwan from Lebanon, as well as Bishop Hani Bakhoom, Vicar of the Catholic Coptic Church. Also, Dr. Caesar Hakim, who is a Clinical psychiatry from Haifa – Expert of the Ecclesiastic Court in Jerusalem, will also be giving a lecture to the participants.
