Jordan: Mary, Mother of the Church parish celebrates the Feast of Virgin Mary
By Munir Bayouk/ en.abouna.org :

On Sunday, October 26, a Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr. Imad Hijazin at Mary, Mother of the Church parish in Northern Marka to celebrate the Feast of Virgin Mary, Queen of Palestine and the Holy Land. In attendance were a large number of the faithful.

In his homily, Fr. Twal reviewed the history of this feast, which was initiated in the heart of the Church in the Holy Land. He noted that its roots date back to 1927, when Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Luigi Barlassina decided to establish a grotto for Blessed Mary under the title "Our Lady of Palestine," at a time when the region was going through difficult political circumstances following World War I. He continued noting that the official recognition of this feast was in 1933, to become an annual spiritual occasion marked by the Church in the Holy Land. Fr. Twal also discussed the historical and the spiritual role of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher, who have taken Blessed Mary, the Queen of Palestine, as their patron saint, while  they strive nowadays to support the Church and to serve Christian communities in Palestine and other countries in the East.

Father Imad reflected on the faith- and humane-based significance of this feast, stressing that honoring Blessed Mary incites us to emulate her faith and obedience to God, as well as to promote the values of education and peace in society, especially among the new generations. He concluded his sermon with a prayer, saying, "Let us plead with Our Lady to accompany our Church, our land, and our people, as well as to make every one of us a follower of Christ's peace in our lives and among those we meet."
