By Munir Bayouk/ en.abouna.org :

On Saturday, March 7, 2025, Our Lady of Peace Center (OLOPC) in Amman held its annual iftar banquet, in an atmosphere exuding cordiality, attended by Latin Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan Bishop Iyad Twal, along with the center's children, and their families. The gathering served as a humanitarian occasion that brought together families and children in a spirit of joy and solidarity, while reaffirming the importance of such initiatives in enhancing the feelings of care for persons with disabilities and entrenching a culture of coherence within the society.

"The gathering served as a humanitarian occasion that brought together families and children in an atmosphere of joy and solidarity, which affirmed the importance of such initiatives that foster a spirit of care for people with disabilities and entrench a culture of inclusion in the society."

In remarks delivered by OLOPC Director Fr. Shawqi Baterian, he emphasized that the OLOPC’s mission gives top priority to human beings particularly those who are in need of support and assistance. He pointed out that the OLOPC annually serves hundreds of persons with disabilities, while supporting them with a spirit of love, free of charge and without any form of discrimination, in the framework of a humanitarian mission aimed at enhancing their presence and integration in the Jordanian society.

Furthermore, he noted that OLOPC continues to upgrade its comprehensive rehabilitation services, which include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, early intervention, prosthesis and orthosis, special education for children with Down syndrome, mental disability and autism. He also referred to the launching of new programs in the fields of agriculture, chocolate making, and food preparation with the goal of expanding training and employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.

It is worthy to note that the OLOPC was earlier awarded the National Gold Accreditation by the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which provides cogent evidence of its noble services that reach all sectors of society, and disseminates an aroma of amaranthine mercy that replaces pain with joy and washes away the tears of the suffering.

OLOPC was established in 2004. It is located in the countryside, 12 kilometers of Amman. it opened as a pioneering concept in Jordan to provide specialized daycare for families bearing the responsibility of caring for persons with disabilities, as they are rarely well-equipped for it.

OLOPC provides services to thousands of people with disabilities annually in its main center and its branches in Aqaba, Anjara, Zarqa and Mafraq. As it remains the largest and the only free of charge center for rehabilitation and special education in Jordan, it provides for people with disabilities a better life by enabling their inclusion in family and society, as well as by helping them achieve themselves with the support of a specialized team that believes in the noble mission of the center. It provides the best comprehensive and holistic rehabilitation in addition to special education services for persons with disabilities in a charitable manner regardless of race, color, and religion as well as to educating people about the issues and rights of persons with disabilities.

Our Lady of Peace Center will always remain a merciful haven for people with disabilities by opening the doors for a bright and a fruitful future.
