The Latin Vicariate in Jordan has announced in a statement dated October 28, 2026 the appointment of Mr. Omar Abawi as executive director of Caritas Jordan for a five-year term, in accordance with the decision by the Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land, chaired by His Beatitude Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem.

In a statement signed by Latin Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan Bishop Iyad Twal, the Vicariate noted that the appointment decision was issued during the meeting of the Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land, held in Jerusalem on October 15, in accordance with the provisions of Caritas Jordan’s governance system.

On this occasion, the Vicariate expressed its sincere thanks and appreciation to the administrative board of Caritas Jordan for its dedicated efforts and responsible work in serving Caritas’ humanitarian and ecclesial mission, as well as for its role in supporting its progression, strengthening its mission, and developing its services for those most in need.

It also extended its best wishes to Mr. Omar Abbawi for success in his new duties, praying that God would blesses his efforts in continuing Caritas Jordan’s humanitarian and ecclesial mission, serving people and upholding human dignity in a spirit of love, solidarity, and generosity.
