Patriarch Pizzaballa visits Greek Orthodox, Armenian patriarchates

  By Munir Bayouk/ en.abouna.org :

On Saturday, January 30, 2021, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem His Beatitude Pierbattista Pizzaballa, accompanied by a delegation comprising of bishops and priests of the Latin Patriarchate, visited the  Greek Orthodox and Greek Armenian patriarchates. This is his first visit since his nomination as Latin patriarch of Jerusalem as his earlier visit to Jordan and the prevailing epidemiological situation prevented him from making this visit at an earlier time.

Patriarch of the Orthodox Church of Jerusalem Patriarch Theophilos III welcomed Patriarch Pizzaballa stressing the importance of cooperation among Churches to confront common issues relevant to defending the Christian presence in the Holy Land and preserving the holy sites. He also referred to the important role-played by Patriarch Pizzaballa in the restoration of the Holy Sepulcher, and underlined the importance of further consolidating this cooperation in light of the prevailing pandemic.

For his part, Patriarch Pizzaballa mentioned the common and the shared responsibility of all Churches, and the importance of the Christian roots that unite them.

At the end of the visit, Patriarch Theophilos presented him with a Cross and an icon representing the Holy Sepulcher and Lord Jesus Christ's rising from the dead.

Later, Pierbattista Pizzaballa visited the Armenian Patriarchate and was welcomed by Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem Nourhan Manougian. Discussions focused on Christmas celebrations in Jerusalem and the difficult global situation caused by Corona pandemic.
