Following the Apostolic Visit of the Holy Father to Cyprus and to Greece, Chargé d'Affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature in Jordan Monsignor Mauro Lalli met with President of the Senate Senator Faisal Fayez on Tuesday, December 14, 2021.
On this occasion, Monsignor Mauro Lalli underlined the strong message that the Pastoral Visit of Pope Francis brought to the whole region, appealing to the responsibility of governments and peoples towards the most vulnerable such as refugees and those fleeing from wars and poverty.
One cannot turn one's head the other way in the face of the tragedies that are repeated on land, and in the sea and it is necessary to support all those who, like Jordan, are on the front line to deal with the emergency.
The Pontifical Representative once again praised Jordan's positive example for dialogue and common living among believers of different faiths, urging the institutions of this country to continue on the path of justice and mutual respect.
Also with regard to the "status of Jerusalem and the Holy Places" of the three monotheistic religions, the role of the Hashemite Royal House - was recalled – contributes to safeguard their religious and human dimension.
Msgognor Lalli then responded with pleasure to the invitation of the Senate’s Jordanian-Italian Friendship Committee, headed by His Excellency Senator Bassam Haddadin in order to highlight the importance of international collaboration with Jordan for human and social promotion.
The Chargé d’Affaires of the Vatican Nunciature confirmed the constant and wide-ranging commitment that the local Catholic Churches, together with the other Christian Churches, carry out every day in the various fields from education to higher and professional training, up to health and assistance to refugees and to the poorest.
Among the most promising aspects of development for the country, especially when the health emergency around the world is over, tourism and hospitality are priorities, as was discussed during the meeting. The Catholic Church is ready to collaborate with its experience gained positively - along with its own competent agencies – to further enhance Jordan’s Holy Places such as Mount Nebo and the Baptismal Site in addition to other Holy Places of profound Christian significance.
