Amman: Requiem Mass held marking the passing away of Fr. Azzam Jasir
By Munir Bayouk/ en.aboun.org :

On Friday, April 20, 2024 Patriarch Emeritus Fouad Twal held a requiem Mass marking the passing away of Fr. Azzam Jasir, at  the Church of the Good Shepherd in Amman in the presence of a group of bishops, priests, nuns, the family of the deceased, and a crowd of believers.

In his homily, Patriarch Twal said Fr. Azzam Jasir, “has departed to the Kingdom of God. He was an exemplary priest regarding priestly brotherhood, namely a virtuous person closely associated with the Lord. He was a shepherd of the believers and lover of all, while combining peace of heart and conscience with gentleness and humility, with a smiling face."

He added, "Two weeks before marking the Feast of Easter, the feast of victory over death and sin, Fr. Azzam left his family and friends with tears marking separation, but our faith has alleviated the impact of this affliction."

He continued, "The death of believers, especially the death of a priest who is faithful to his priesthood, serves as a prelude leading to eternal life, where they meet Lord Jesus Christ. For the believers, death is a way leading to eternal life, where there is no disease, epidemics, or tears, because the life of those who believe in You, O Lord, do not disappear, but rather change. Therefore, every believer must constantly be ready to appear before the just judge, namely the Lord, who is at the same time the loving and merciful Father."

He added, "While marking every funeral, our consolation is based on the fact that Lord Jesus Christ died before us and rose from the dead. As we are currently mark the Lenten Season, we contemplate the mystery of the life, death and resurrection of the Redeemer. The life of every human being, especially the priests, has become a cross, followed by death, then resurrection, in the example of the life of the Teacher who chose the Cross and pain, to overcome evil and death, to leave behind an empty grave, and to proceed ahead of us to the Kingdom of God in order to welcome all those who believe in Him."

He concluded his homily saying, "In the name of His Beatitude Patriarch Pierbattista Pizzaballa, as well as the Latin Patriarchate's bishops, priests, nuns, and the faithful, we convey our condolences and prayers to all members of the family of the late Fr. Azzam Jasir as well as the Khoury, Basir and Awad families in Jordan and abroad. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace."
