In alignment with its mission to serve the community through education and public engagement, Bethlehem University’s Tarek Ahmad Juffali Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences, in partnership with the Palestinian Medical Relief Society (Bethlehem branch) and Al-Quds University, organized a health awareness day in the village of ‘Arab Ar-Rashayida, east of Bethlehem, under the title “United for You.”
Led by the Department of Midwifery, this outreach initiative focused on raising awareness among women of all ages—from adolescence to post-menopause—on critical topics in reproductive and sexual health. The event is part of Bethlehem University’s commitment to service-learning and community health empowerment, with students applying academic knowledge to real-world challenges.
Ms. Fatima Madani-Hammad, Chairperson of the Midwifery Department at Bethlehem University, explained that the initiative aligns with the University’s service-learning approach, where students not only study but serve. “We are educating for impact,” she said. “The goal was to raise awareness on sexual and reproductive health and address broader social issues like consanguineous marriage and early marriage.”
Sabreen Obaidallah from the Palestinian Medical Relief Society emphasized the significance of reaching marginalized communities with essential health information and services, noting the vital role of midwives in advancing public health education. “This initiative strengthens women’s access to both medical and knowledge-based resources,” she said.
By extending the classroom into the community, Bethlehem University continues to champion education that transforms lives. This event exemplifies how the University equips future healthcare professionals not only with clinical expertise but also with a deep sense of civic responsibility and compassion—cornerstones of its mission to empower individuals and strengthen Palestinian society.
