A meeting of the pastoral councils was held under the patronage of Latin Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan Bishop Iyad Twal on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Our Lady of Peace Center. The meeting was organized by the Pastoral Councils Coordination and Spiritual Director Fr. Suleiman Shobash, with the participation of a number of priests and council members from various Latin churches in Jordan.

At the outset of the gathering, Bishop Twal expressed his happiness at meeting with the pastoral  councils for the first time since his nomination and episcopal ordination earlier this year. He also thanked its members for their efforts and eagerness in serving the parishes with dedication, while considering this as a sign of affiliation and care for the good of the Church.

During the meeting, he stressed that the leading role of council members is that of a layperson in the Church, namely the baptized Christians who live in the Christian community as a branch connected to the other branches of the vine that represent Lord Jesus Christ. He pointed out that Christianity is the only religion in which the Church jointly represents an "institution" and a "community," adding, "We want to be a living Church, with lord Jesus Christ present at its midst."

Bishop Twal presented an outline of the council's role according to Church teaching, noting that the bishop is responsible for the life of the Christian community, while the parish priest exercises priestly life in the name of the Church with the bishop's authorization, by administering the sacraments and serving the faithful. Furthermore, he indicated that the pastoral plan aims at providing a faith and spiritual experience for every baptized person, noting that what is required from bishops, priests, and the council members is to live discipleship with Lord Jesus Christ and to reflect this in their mission.
