On Friday, September 5, 2025, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem His Beatitude Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa celebrated Holy Mass at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Tla' Al-Ali, northwestern Amman, marking the 25th anniversary (the silver jubilee) of its construction.
In attendance were Patriarch Fouad Twal, Patriarchal Administrator of the Greek Melkite Catholic Church Archimandrite Boulos Nazha, representatives of sister churches, priests, deacons, nuns, acolytes, Superior General of the Rosary Sisters Mother Agnes Al-Yacoub, dignitaries, Knights of the Holy Sepulcher, and a large number of believers.
In his homily, Cardinal Pizzaballa expressed his happiness for taking part in the silver jubilee celebration marking the construction of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Tla' Al-Ali. He stressed that this occasion is in the first place dedicated to thanking the Almighty God, as well as for all the efforts exerted over the past years to serve the parishioners.
He also reflected on the significance of "the church", noting that it is not a building made of stones, but rather a community of believers who gather in the name of Christ to be a living image of "Heavenly Jerusalem". He said, "The community that believes in Christ is called upon to envision everything through a different perspective, and despite the fact that the image of Jerusalem is out of sight nowadays, we are called upon to work assiduously to turn it into a heavenly Jerusalem by bearing witness to Lord Jesus Christ, and doing good to all people especially to the poor and the marginalized."
The Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem added that despite the fact that the Church is bereft of great power and authority to confront the world, she is rich with regards to its communities, institutions, and the ability to be a home that welcomes families in faith, hope, and love. He referred with sorrow to the families of Gaza who lost their homes but remained united in the Church, so that the Church would not just be a place of worship, but rather a "home for the community."
Concluding his homily, Cardinal Pizzaballa thanked the parishioners of Tla' Al-Ali, who wanted the church at an earlier time to be a true home that brings together its people to receive the Holy Sacraments and exchange feelings of love. He also thanked the Church in Jordan, the Imseeh family, and all the donors who contributed to the church's development one year after the other.
At the outset of the Holy Mass, parish priest Fr. Rif'at Bader delivered an address in which he recalled his participation in the church's consecration ceremony during the Great Jubilee of 2000, as he returns a quarter of a century later to stand at the same pulpit to mark the Jubilee of Hope in 2025, which coincides with the 350th anniversary of Lord Jesus Christ's apparition to Saint Alacoque . Fr. Bader thanked Cardinal Pizzaballa for his attendance despite his heartfelt concern for "the stabbed and aimlessly wandering pigeon of peace, while searching for a haven on the shores of Gaza and Palestine." He also extended a special greeting to the Church of the Holy Family in Gaza.
He also paid tribute to all the priests who served in this parish and to Imseeh family that built the church. He prayed for the late commander of the Holy Sepulcher, Karam Imseeh, and prayed for his family and grandchildren's well-being and peace. Furthermore, he expressed gratitude to the donors who contributed to the church's maintenance and modernization, including the finance department of the Latin Vicariate, and the family of the late Elias Haddad who made a donation to the church. He also thanked the engineers and the workers who supervised the restoration, maintenance, and renovation work of the church.
Fr. Rif'at Bader concluded his address by saying, "Twenty-five years ago, after anointing the temple of this church with oil, and decorating, I said then, and I reiterate that today: ''Beloved people, Lord Jesus Christ is now present among us. He is joyful marking the Jubilee; He is the A and the Z; He is the Risen One who exists forever. Let us applaud Him joyfully.''
Secretary General of the Latin Patriarchal Vicariate in Jordan Fr. Imad Alamat delivered an address on behalf of Latin Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan Bishop Iyad Twal who conveyed his greetings and affection to all those present at the celebration. He recalled with gratitude the late Knight of the Holy Sepulcher Karam Imseeh who built the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Tla' al-Ali, and pleaded for him to be rewarded a place in Heaven. Bishop Twal also offered his heartfelt congratulations to the parishioners, hoping that the Holy Spirit would bestow grace upon them, so that the Church would remain a spiritual beacon that illuminates the path of the faithful and leads them to fertile pastures.
Mr.Osama Imseeh delivered an address during which he thanked Cardinal Pizzaballa and the attendees for their participation in this Jubilee Mass. He related the developments relevant to the construction of the church and stressed that the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church is not a church for one family, but rather a home for all the believers. He also gratefully remembered all the priests and nuns who served there. He concluded his address by offering prayers for the repose of the soul of his late father, Karam Imseeh, who fulfilled the dream to build the church and worked hard to realize it until it became a living reality whose silver Jubilee is marked today.
