en.abouna.org :

As part of its recurring activities during the Lenten season, the Springs of Hope initiative, in collaboration with the Mar Charbel Family, organized a spiritual pilgrimage to Mount Nebo in Madaba. This retreat was attended by the second cohort of Ambassadors of Hope from the Marka North parish and the third cohort from the Hashmi North parish, who are preparing for their graduation in June 2025.

The day began with a warm welcome by Father Fadi Samia from Lebanon, Sister Cécile Hijazin, the coordinator of the Springs of Hope initiative in Jordan and secretary of the Union of Religious Orders, and Mr. Pierre Abu Samra from the Mar Charbel Family. The event was also attended by Dr. Amal Jreisat, a lecturer at the University of Jordan and a retired civil servant, who previously served as director of media at the Prime Ministry and as an advisor to the prime minister.

Upon arrival in Madaba, participants gathered at the Church of Mount Nebo, where Father Fadi delivered an insightful lecture on the Lenten season, highlighting the Jubilee Year. He spoke about the role of believers this year as pilgrims of hope and faith, and about the Synodal journey. The attendees were divided into four groups to discuss the topics presented during the lecture, namely Pilgrims of Hope, the meaning of the Jubilee Year, the Church, and the Synod.

Mr. Pierre Abu Samra also spoke about the role of Ambassadors of Hope within the Church and the parish. Following the lecture, there were confessions, individual prayers, and meditations.

Before the celebration of the Holy Mass, the attendees gathered around the Virgin Mary and offered their devotion by reciting the Rosary for world peace, for the healing of His Holiness the Pope, and for the sick, grieving, and suffering.

After praying the Rosary with Mar Charbel Family and participants from around the world via Facebook, the Holy Mass was led by Father Matheus, the parish priest of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Hashmi North, while Father Fadi Samia heard confessions.

Before concluding the spiritual retreat at Mount Nebo, the participants visited the Church of the Beheading of John the Baptist, where they were welcomed by Father Tariq Abu Hanna, the parish priest. The attendees then listened to an awareness lecture by Engineer Laura Sweis, who spoke about skill development and its role in combating human trafficking.

The day ended with a visit to the Wax Museum near Mount Nebo, where the participants explored the museum and learned about historical events and stories from this sacred part of Jordan.

After a long and enriching day, the participants returned to their respective parishes, spiritually nourished and ready to continue their Lenten journey toward the glorious Feast of Ressurrection (Easter).
