By Munir Bayouk/ en.abouna.org :

On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, the Latin Church in Jordan welcomed Monsignor Iyad Twal, who was appointed by His Holiness Pope Francis on December 17 as an auxiliary bishop of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem and Latin patriarchal vicar for Jordan.

The procession of the new bishop set off from the Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem, heading to the Patriarchal Vicariate in Amman. At King Hussein Bridge, the procession was received by former Acting Latin Patriarchal Vicar Fr. Jihad Shweihat, and a number of priests of the Latin Patriarchate. Patriarch Fouad Twal, a number of representatives of churches, priests, deacons, nuns, and representatives of church institutions also welcomed him. Then, a thanksgiving prayer called for by the Latin Patriarchal Vicariate in the Kingdom was held.

Then, Fr. Jihad Shweihat delivered an address in which he welcomed appointed Bishop Twal on his first official visit to assume his duties in Jordan. He also offered his thanks to His Holiness Pope Francis for choosing him to carry the message of the good shepherd to lead the holy people of God, and thanked His Beatitude Cardinal Pizzaballa who made strenuous efforts to expedite the appointment of the new bishop. He said: This apostolic zeal, bond and cohesion will remain a continuous and an effective factor, and we will work hand in hand with the new bishop.

After the Holy Mass, Monsignor Twal received well-wishes at the church hall.
