Caritas Jordan: Health, Nutrition and First Aid--three awareness campaigns for vulnerable communities
caritasjordan.org.jo :

As part of the PASS Project, funded by the Italian Cooperation, Caritas Jordan  has implemented three health awareness campaigns aimed at promoting the well-being of vulnerable Jordanian citizens and Iraqi refugees.

The activities took place at Caritas centers in Amman, Madaba, and Balqa, engaging families and individuals in a process designed to strengthen knowledge and provide practical tools to support their own health and that of their loved ones.

The first campaign focused on the prevention of chronic diseases, a particularly important issue for people facing barriers in accessing health information and services. Through sessions led by medical professionals, basic health check-ups, and the distribution of informational materials, participants gained a better understanding of hypertension and other chronic conditions, increasing their awareness of the importance of prevention and regular health screenings.

The second campaign was dedicated to maternal and child nutrition. Healthcare professionals guided participating families through the principles of proper nutrition during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and early childhood, highlighting the essential role that adequate nutrition plays in the health and development of both mothers and children. At the end of the sessions, each family received informational materials and a children’s lunch box containing dates, oats, and milk, providing practical support to help translate the information received into everyday healthy habits.

The third campaign addressed the topic of first aid, equipping participants with practical knowledge to respond to common emergency situations. Qualified staff introduced basic first aid techniques and explained the actions that can be taken in the critical first minutes before professional medical assistance arrives. To reinforce the training, participants received informational materials and first aid kits, enabling them to apply the skills acquired within their households and communities.

These three campaigns represent one of the intervention areas of the PASS Project and reflect its commitment to promoting access to health information, prevention, and essential knowledge among the most vulnerable segments of the population. Raising awareness on health-related issues contributes to building stronger and more resilient communities, better equipped to safeguard their well-being and face everyday challenges through increased knowledge and opportunities.
