A Trauma Healing and Spiritual Counseling (THSC) workshop was held in Jordan, from June 20–26, 2026, bringing together 22 church ministers from Jordan and the Holy Lands for a meaningful week of healing, renewal, and personal growth.
The program was organized by the Theological and Ecumenical Department of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC). Designed for ordained ministers, lay assistants, people who work at Church, social workers, and individuals working directly with traumatized communities, the workshop offered participants a valuable opportunity to rest, rejuvenate, and strengthen their capacity to accompany others on their healing journeys.
Supported by a team of spiritual counselors and psychologists, the workshop provided a holistic approach that integrated psychological care with spiritual accompaniment. Each day began with sports activities for those who wanted to do, followed by meditation, reflection, and Prayer, creating an atmosphere of peace and serenity before the start of the training sessions.
The program was structured around a series of daily themes that guided participants through a journey of self-discovery and healing. The sessions focused on “My Worth”, “My Strength”, “My Story”, and “My Resurrection”, inviting participants to reflect on their personal experiences, recognize their inner resources, and embrace hope and renewal.
The daily program included spiritual and psychological sessions that explored trauma, healing, resilience, and self-care. Participants engaged in group discussions and interactive activities that encouraged personal reflection, mutual support, and the sharing of experiences.
Afternoon sessions focused on developing soft skills that are essential for those serving individuals and communities affected by trauma.
A key component of the workshop was the opportunity for participants to benefit from daily one-to-one sessions with both a psychologist and a spiritual counselor, providing a confidential and supportive environment for deeper reflection and personal growth.
Evenings were dedicated to fellowship and community-building activities, strengthening the bonds among participants and bringing up a spirit of solidarity. The workshop concluded with a social outing on Thursday night, offering participants and facilitators the opportunity to celebrate the week's journey together in a joyful and relaxed setting.
Throughout the workshop, the Director of the Theological and Ecumenical Department, Fr. Dr. Antoine Al Ahmar, along with the department’s coordinator and MEAL Consultant, were present to monitor the activities, provide support, and ensure the smooth implementation of the program.
In addition, a meeting was held between the THSC team, and the MENA Regional Representative of "ACT Alliance" Mr. George Majaj, and the Regional Program Coordinator at ACT Church of Sweden Mrs. Waed Imseeh, in order to discuss ongoing collaboration and strengthen efforts in promoting trauma healing initiatives across the region.
In a world where communities continue to face conflict, displacement, and other challenges, initiatives such as this workshop play a vital role in fostering resilience and hope.
By combining mental health support with spiritual care, the program offered participants practical tools and renewed energy to continue serving their communities with compassion, understanding, and faith.
